
Elizabethton’s Covered Bridge is always at the center of activities at the city’s biggest festival of the year, Covered Bridge Days. Festival goers come early for the many hours of live entertainment in Covered Bridge Park.
There will be lots of inflatables and other events for children at Kids Island during Covered Bridge Days, including several times to have fun at foam parties.
In addition to all the live music at the Covered Bridge Stage, there will also be live music at the Main Street Elizabethton Block Party, held in the third block of downtown Elk Avenue, across the river from the other Covered Bridge activities. The Block Party musician include: Nathan Hardin with Dan Britt and JP Mathes & Fiddling Leona.
Sister Sadie will headline the entertainment on the Covered Bridge Stage on Friday night.
The Gatlin Brothers and Carter County’s favorite local entertainer, Carson Peters & Iron Mountain will be just a few of a whole day of live entertainment on the Covered Bridge Stage on Saturday.
Colton Dixon will perform on Sunday.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — Carter County’s biggest annual festival is set for next week, with plenty of free concerts, lots of activities, vendors and food, topped off with the big fireworks display from the Elk Avenue Bridge. The Covered Bridge Days, presented by the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department will be held around the historic Covered Bridge from Sept. 22-24.
The Parks and Rec staff have been hard at work for several weeks, wrapping up the event schedule. Several new activities will be taking place over the weekend. The staff also said that the many volunteers who work the festival play a big role in making Covered Bridge Days possible.
Colton Dixon will serve as the headliner of Covered Bridge Days.
This year’s music on the Covered Bridge Stage will include: the Gatlin Brothers, Sister Sadie, Carson Peters & Iron Mountain and Colton Dixon. In addition, there will once again be a Block Party organized by Main Street Elizabethton on the third block of East Elk Avenue on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m., including live music by Nathan Hardin with Dan Britt and JP Mathes & Fiddling Leona.
Covered Days is a family-friendly event and everything gets started in Kids Island at 11 a.m. on Friday. Kids Island will offer inflatables and attractions throughout the day, until 8 p.m. Friday highlights at Kids Island include the popular foam parties from 2 to 3 p.m., 4 to 5 p.m., and 6 to 7 p.m. Children will also enjoy the magic show, which takes place from 3 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m.
For the grownups, the arts and craft vendors will open from 11 to 8 p.m. On the Elk Avenue Bridge there will be the Touch a Truck going on from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Covered Bridge Stage entertainment for Friday will be begin at 6 p.m. with High-Test Bluegrass. Sister Sadie takes the stage at 8 p.m.
The biggest day of the festival will be Saturday, with the start coming at 10 a.m. for the arts and craft vendors and the Kids Island attractions. For the children, there will be several character meet and greets taking place at Kids Island, including Barney from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; Sesame Street characters from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; Blue’s Clues from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Pooh and Friends from 11:30 a.m. until noon; and Scooby and SpongeBob from 5-6 p.m. There will also be foam parties from noon to 1 p.m., 2 to 3 p.m., 4 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. There will be magic shows from 1 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m.
Entertainment on the Elk Avenue Bridge will get started on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the Miss and Mr. Covered Bridge Days Pageant. Dancing performances will take place on the Elk Avenue Bridge for the rest of Saturday, with the Appalachian Irish Dance Co. performing from 1:30 to 2 p.m.; the Covered Bridge Cloggers performing from 2:30 to 3 p.m.; Watts Dance Studio performing from 3:30 to 4 p.m.; and the East Tennessee Ballet Company performing from 4:30 to 5 p.m.
The Covered Bridge Stage entertainment gets started on Saturday 1 p.m. with Don Harrell and the Troubadours. The Bulls Eye Band takes the stage at 3:15 p.m. Carson Peters & Iron Mountain will start at 5:30 p.m. The Gatlin Brothers will begin at 8 p.m.
Saturday’s big fireworks show will start after dark at 9:30 p.m.
The finale for Covered Bridge Days will be Sunday, with things getting started at Kids Island and the arts and craft vendors opening at 1 p.m. The shortened last day of the festival ends at 6 p.m. The schedule for the final day at Kids Island will be a meet and greet with Mickey and Friends from 1 to 2 p.m., foam parties from 3 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. and a magic show from 4 to 5 p.m.
The Elk Avenue Bridge will feature the Elizabethton Youth Business Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. The fair is sponsored by Carter County Bank.
Sunday events on the Covered Bridge Stage will begin with One Church Worship starting at 2:30 p.m. The final live performance of Covered Bridge Days will be Colton Dixon. His performance begins at 4:30 p.m.
