In the world of music, there are few journeys as remarkable and diverse as that of Rosilee St. Nicholas. From her early days as a church girl in Rapid City to performing on stages around the world with rock legends, Rosilee’s life story is a testament to talent, faith and the power of staying true to oneself.
Rosilee’s musical journey began at the tender age of three when she started playing the keyboard by ear. Growing up in a pastor’s home, her roots were firmly planted in gospel music.
But her musical talents soon expanded as she learned to play the organ at the age of 12. It was during this time that she developed a fascination with the Hammond B3, a legendary instrument in rock and roll and certain church circles.
In 1990, Rosilee’s life took an unexpected turn when she ventured out of the church and into the world of rock ‘n’ roll. It was at the Buffalo Chip that she received an invitation from Rod Woodruff, the event’s organizer, to perform alongside Nick St. Nicholas, a member of the iconic band Steppenwolf. Rosilee’s initial lack of recognition for Nick’s band didn’t deter her as she embarked on this new adventure.
Her commitment to remaining drug and alcohol-free while surrounded by a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle was admirable. Rather than succumbing to peer pressure, she became a beacon of light for those around her, proving that it’s possible to stay true to one’s principles in any environment.
Rosilee’s journey continued as she joined the World Classic Rockers (WCR), a band featuring members from renowned acts like The Eagles, Steppenwolf, Toto and Wings.
Over a decade, she toured the world with this star-studded ensemble, sharing the stage with legends of rock music. One notable member of WCR was Randy Meisner from The Eagles, known for his high-pitched vocals on “Take It to the Limit.”
In a poignant moment, Rosilee paid tribute to Randy Meisner during an event in Los Angeles. Vince Gill, another renowned musician, joined her onstage for a rendition of “Amazing Grace.” The performance was a heartfelt tribute to a musical legend and a reflection of Rosilee’s deep faith.
After years of traveling the world and performing for thousands, Rosilee found herself back in Rapid City. She returned to support her father’s church and eventually became its pastor.
This transition marked a full circle in her life, from her upbringing in a pastor’s home to her global adventures and back to her community.
Rosilee St. Nicholas’s journey from gospel roots to the world of rock ‘n’ roll is nothing short of inspirational. Her ability to navigate two vastly different worlds, maintain her principles and bring her faith with her every step of the way is a testament to her resilience and character. Her story serves as a reminder that no matter where life takes you, staying true to yourself and your beliefs can lead to a fulfilling and meaningful journey.
Today, Rosilee continues her musical and spiritual endeavors, sharing her gifts and faith with those she meets. She leads services at Living Word Church in Rapid City, offering an experience with Jesus Christ that she believes can change lives. Her remarkable journey is a testament to the enduring power of music, faith and the unwavering pursuit of one’s passion.
